Steve Carell in Get Smart

Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway will play opposite each other in a big screen remake of the TV comedy "Get Smart". Carell will be playing Maxwell Smart, a funny somewhat aloof secret agent.  The twosome will battle the tyrannical forces of KAOS as they struggle to compete with other spy agencies. The picture is set to start filming in March 2007. This role Don Adams played in the sitcom. Many of you may remember the shoe phone.

I do remember the shoe phone... it had a telescoping metal antenna that he pulled up and the heel contained the keypad. How cool would it be to have a cell phone like that?

Gravatar Just read a review of the new Get Smart movie script on www.wouldyoubelieve.com.
It is GARBAGE. If Steve does this role as it is currently written, it will be a BIG hurdle to get over in his career. Hopefully Steve has enough respect for the original series and BRILLIANT comedy to refuse this horrible script.
PLEASE Steve, JUST SAY NO!

Gravatar I agree that Steve should demand a better script for the "Get Smart" movie. He's too good for the material as written. He should demand they consult with people who created the original series. I love Steve in "The Office" and I know the current "Get Smart" script is beneath him.

Gravatar I am a HUGE fan of Get Smart. I was so excited to hear they were going to do a movie version. Unfortunately after reading the script review from www.wouldyoubelieve.com, I am appalled. Why is it that Hollywood has to completely change everything from the original. The idea that Buck Henry and Mel Brooks are too "old school" to contribute is rediculous. I'm in my 20's and I still think Mel Brooks is a comic genius. PLEASE, Steve Carell, if you're reading this, PLEASE DON'T LET THEM DESTROY GET SMART!!!!!

Gravatar Allright fanboys, calm down!!! If you ARE a fan of the show, and think the script is bad, be grateful that Carell got the role. I've read he's <carrell> is revising it as we speak.......... Plus, even if it is bad, they can't ever take the tv show away from us.....
